Art academies exchange program between Makerere University Kampala (MUK) & Bezalel Academy Jerusalem. A Program initiated by the African Studies Gallery and CoCuDi Center.
Since 2018, the African Studies Gallery in collaboration with CoCuDi Center is facilitating an exchange program between the Ceramics and Glass Department at Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and the Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art at Makerere University Kampala.
The program allows exchange of technical and scholarly knowledge, while sensitizing people to unfamiliar culture in an equal and collaborative setting.
The goal of the program is to promote and develop social, cultural, educational and creative mutual activities between Israeli and Ugandan leading art academies. Thus allowing social and personal empowerment and socio-economic and cultural development. The African Studies Gallery and CoCuDi also strive to expose diverse audiences to new cultures in order to create opportunities for local and international cultural exchange.
Starting academic year of 2020-2021 the program is taking place online (hybrid) due to covid19. In fact, to these days, a quarter of the courses at the Bezalel ceramic and glass department are taught by Makerere faculty teachers.
